Join our Team! We’re hiring for the Jam Squad!

Girl Meets Dirt is an Orcas Island based, fruit preserves company specializing in heirloom jams from heritage island fruit. The bounty of orchard fruit on the San Juan Islands and their capacity to feed this community for over 135 years is our inspiration. To keep the agricultural legacy of the islands alive and continue to support the orchard economy, we have stewardship arrangements with island growers. Our effort is to preserve the community, the trees and their fruit by sharing the magic of simple, old-school varietals, preserved for enjoyment throughout the year. We have a growing wholesale business, selling our preserves to specialty food & cheese shops, & grocers across the country.  In addition, we have retail offerings in our kitchen space, a growing online store and do weekly seasonal farmers markets in San Juan County and Seattle. We were a 2016 and 2018 Good Food Awards Winner and pride ourselves in making exceptional, unique preserves.  We're looking to add a few talented, enthusiastic people to both our operations/marketing and production staff.  The full job descriptions are below (and how to apply).  We can't wait to hear from you!

Operations & Marketing Assistant

Reports to: Audra Lawlor, Founder & President

Location: Eastsound, Washington (Orcas Island)
Pay range: $17-$18/hour DOE. We do not offer medical benefits at this time. We do offer generous paid holiday/PTO benefits for full-time staff. This position is based on a car ferry serviced island and not appropriate for commuters.

JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an individual to connect the dots between the beautiful products we make and getting that product into the hands of the customers we love. This individual will serve a dynamic role on our small team supporting operations and marketing and serving as a liaison between day-to-day production and marketing related activities and management. This is an ideal position for a multi-tasking, hard-working, entrepreneurial, detail oriented individual looking to grow with an exciting food company in a beautiful, active island community.

Given we are a very small team, the Operations & Marketing Assistant should expect to spend up to 50% of their time engaged in an active production role on their feet and using their biceps – supporting on an as-needed basis how we source, craft, deliver, and ship out our exceptional product (making jam, labeling, packaging & shipping). This share will vary throughout the year with some weeks or months having very little to zero active production, and some weeks and months, typically in the winter, having more. It is important this role be filled by someone with an all-hands-on-deck, pitch in where/when needed attitude.

You do not need to know how to make jam, or have specific experience in operations or marketing but you must be technically competent, an excellent communicator, proactive, and have a desire to learn and grow into a manager role with additional responsibilities & pay (and less to zero active production support as we grow together).
