Girl Meets Dirt is a small, Orcas based, fruit preserves company specializing in heirloom jams from heritage island fruit. We have a growing wholesale business, selling our preserves to specialty food & cheese shops, & grocers across the country.  In addition, we have retail offerings in our kitchen space, a growing online store and do weekly seasonal farmers markets in San Juan County and Seattle. We were a 2016 Good Food Awards Winner and pride ourselves in making exceptional, unique preserves.  We're looking to add a few talented, enthusiastic people to both our kitchen and farmers market staff.  The full job descriptions are below (and how to apply).  We can't wait to hear from you!

Farmers Market Sellers -San Juan Island

Farmers Market Sellers Position:  Market sellers represent Girl Meets Dirt and sell our preserves at San Juan County Farmers Market pop up shops. Sellers are responsible for transporting all market gear, setting up & breaking down, handling money & credit card transactions, sampling product and ensuring each customer has a positive experience. A market day is typically 7-8 hours.

Ideally, you have the following qualities/skills: 
•    love good food and are passionate about island agriculture
•    have own car to transport all market supplies
•    have a good driving record
•    are available on consecutive Saturdays
•    can give a 6 month commitment
•    enjoy interacting with the public
•    have a knack for selling (and/or willing to learn)
•    thrive working independently, are responsible, reliable and committed to what you do
•    ready to start work between 6:30 am -8am in the morning

Market locations

Friday Harbor, San Juan Island Farmer’s Market (Brickworks Building)

Market dates
Saturdays, weekly September - October, monthly thereafter with opportunity for special events, starting September

Pay/Benefits: Competitive pay includes base wage per market (based on experience) + commission.  In addition, there are jam perks & an attractive employee discount.

Roche Harbor Market Seller, Roche Harbor, San Juan Island

Market sellers represent Girl Meets Dirt and sell our preserves at the Roche Harbor market booth, which we will be sharing with Enamora Crafts’ beautiful artwork and jewelry. Sellers are responsible for setting up and breaking down all market gear, handling money and credit card transactions, sampling product, telling our story, charming visitors and local shoppers, supporting heritage orchards, and ensuring each customer has a positive experience. A market day is typically 7- 8 hours.

Our ideal market seller candidates…

·      love good food and are passionate about island agriculture and/or fruit

·      can talk cheese

·      are available 3-4 days a week

·      seamlessly move between representing different brands

·      manage separate inventories and handle separate payments/track transactions

·      can give a 10 week commitment (beginning June 24)

·      enjoy interacting with the public

·      have a knack for selling (and/or willing to learn)

·      are responsible, reliable and committed to what you do

·      can work from 9:30am to 4:30pm

·      are ambassadors for the Islands and love answering questions and providing recommendations

Pay

Base wage per day + $$ commission on daily sales + jam perks

Special Events and Demos - Seattle and surrounding

 

Demo representatives showcase Girl Meets Dirt and sell our preserves at festivals, grocery stores and special events. Reps are responsible for transporting all gear, setting up and breaking down, occasionally handling money and credit card transactions, sampling product, telling our story, educating employees, charming visitors and local shoppers, supporting heritage orchards, and ensuring each passer-by has a positive experience. An event schedule is typically 4-6 hours.

Our ideal event representative candidates…

·      love good food and are passionate about island agriculture and/or fruit

·      will jump in with both feet to new environments, occasionally into the middle of a party

·      can talk cheese

·      manage inventory and handle payments/track transactions

·      show up to work on time and reliably with minimal direct oversight

·      provide excellent written communication to report on event successes

·      have their own car to transport all market supplies

·      have a good driving record

·      are available on-call (with advance notice)

·      enjoy interacting with the public and building a welcoming environment to invite people in to explore the products

·      have a knack for selling (and/or willing to learn)

·      can provide a long-term commitment and enjoy the subsequent increase in pay with increasing length of employment

Assistant Preserve Maker, Eastsound, WA

Job Description:  We are looking to hire an enthusiastic Assistant Preserve Maker (Start date: ASAP, up to 36 hours/week with the opportunity for growth and year-around employment) to work in our kitchen facility in Eastsound. The job entails prepping, cooking and packaging all eleven varietals in our signature line as well as preparing online & wholesale orders for shipment. This is a great opportunity to learn about the art of preservation, small business operations, and to help play an important role in the growth of an island business.

Ideally, you have the following qualities/skills:

  • Commercial kitchen experience (although we’ll train the right person)
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds (sugar & fruit are heavy!)
  • A can-do hustle attitude/you thrive on conquering tasks and strive for perfection
  • Has own vehicle to get to work and do occasional errand
  • Flexible and willing to accommodate frequently changing tasks (multitaskers who enjoy being busy are welcome)
  • Committed, hard-working, detail oriented team player

Hours: The kitchen is in operation M-F from 8am to 5pm. We can offer a tailored, regular schedule for the right person within this window. Increased hours, as well as the opportunity to work year-around are available upon demonstration of a willingness to take on a greater role in kitchen operations & a strong work ethic
