You know we love it old school style and this old varietal, cultivated since Roman times, fits the bill perfectly. Similar to a quince or crabapple, you don't eat medlars straight from the tree- but unlike any other fruit we're familiar with you must "blet" them - aka let them ripen to a super soft intensely sweet stage (some may say 'rotten')- before eating or cooking. We've fully bletted ours and slow cooked them down into a fine tasting cutting preserve destined for your cheese plate. It's a lovely preserve, with complex notes of dates, crabapples, raisins, and loads of history. We are super excited to have it grace your cheese & charcuterie boards this season. 'Tis quite a unique gift for the food connoisseur in your life.
