Join Our Team

At Girl Meets Dirt, we make single-varietal preserves with heritage fruit, to celebrate this special terroir (the 'girl' in our logo holds the native Orcas pear-discovered growing wild on Orcas). The legacy of orchards in the San Juan Islands and their capacity to feed this community for over 135 years is our inspiration. To keep the agricultural history alive we steward island orchards with the most deeply-rooted trees, offering a depth of taste not found in commercially-grown fruits. We have a growing wholesale and distribution business with specialty food, cheese shops, & grocers across the country. We also have a retail shop, a growing online store and do weekly seasonal farmers markets in San Juan County. We are a proud 9x Good Food Awards Winner and pride ourselves in making exceptional, unique, handcrafted preserves. Woman-owned and operated, island grown.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Girl Meets Dirt is looking for a warm, capable person to anchor our small retail shop and tasting room a few days a week — and to grow into a genuine sales asset during quieter hours. When customers are here, you’re their first impression of everything we’ve built since 2013. When the shop is quiet, you’re managing island wholesale accounts, our Faire presence, and communications with existing buyers. This is a small operation with real room to grow. We’re not looking for someone to fill a box.

  • WHAT YOU WILL OWN

Tasting Room & Retail Shop

  • -Greet and serve customers; be the face and voice of Girl Meets Dirt

-Tell the brand story with confidence — the heirloom fruit, copper pots, island, 12 Good Food Awards

-Conduct wine and preserve tastings; must be age 21+, MAST certification required (we’ll support you)

-Keep the shop stocked, clean, and running smoothly

-Manage vendor orders, back stock, and restocking of non-GMD products

-Receive and log shipments; maintain inventory records and perform regular counts

-Manage and optimize POS system (Shopify/Square)

-Obtain Food Handler’s Permit if not already current

-Island Wholesale Account Management

-Own day-to-day relationships with Orcas Island wholesale accounts

-Make regular site visits — check stock, educate staff, strengthen relationships

-Deliver orders and restock shelves at key island accounts as needed

-Process orders and manage invoicing; represent GMD at island community events

Faire Marketplace — Growth Ownership

-Faire is the #1 wholesale marketplace in the US, connecting over 100,000 independent brands with 500,000+ retailers globally. It’s a major and underleveraged opportunity for Girl Meets Dirt. This person will own it.

-Manage and optimize our full Faire presence: listings, imagery, pricing

-Own proactive buyer outreach via Faire’s chat and direct messaging tools

-Execute newsletter and marketing campaigns to existing and prospective buyers on the platform

-Manage paid promotions and sample programs; respond to all buyer inquiries and orders

-Track performance and identify opportunities to grow the account base

Direct Wholesale, Customer Service, and Operations

-Support day-to-day communications with existing direct wholesale accounts

-Proactively suggest new products, seasonal offerings, and POS support to grow order volume

-Manage info@girlmeetsdirt.com inbox; provide online customer service as needed

-Assist Operations Manager in daily tasks like checking PO Box and picking up laundry

Brand Ambassador & Demo Programs

-Direct and oversee our outsourced demo and brand ambassador programs

-Coordinate scheduling, supplies, and recap communications with demo partners

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

-Warm, grounded communicator — equally comfortable talking heirloom fruit and processing an invoice

-Genuine enthusiasm for specialty food and small producers

-Experience in retail, customer service, sales, or tasting room environments

-Comfortable with sales operations: order processing, invoicing, account follow-up

-Familiarity with POS systems, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Faire, Shopify, and Slack

-AI-savvy or eager to become so — we use AI tools to analyze sales data, surface Faire insights, and support marketing projects; comfort experimenting with these tools is a real plus

-Organized, self-directed, and trustworthy with account relationships and financial details

-Already on Orcas or firmly committed to being here

-Bonus: wine or beverage sales, specialty cheese, or island agriculture experience

ROOM TO GROW

This role starts part-time. As Girl Meets Dirt expands — more retail doors, more wholesale accounts, an active demo program, new sales channels — so does this opportunity. We want someone who wants more, not someone content to stay in a lane.

TO APPLY

Send a resume and a short note to jobs@girlmeetsdirt.com. No lengthy cover letters — just tell us who you are and why you’re the right fit for a small island food company with big ambitions.
